week off and then, focused training
as an elementary school art teacher (for the last 5 years after HS/MS stints), I tend to get a serious cold/upper resp infection in November every year. the kids are great, the germs are plentiful. it may also be a reaction to the fact that our XC season ends in November. I may be going through XC withdrawal. so, I was thinking the other day of a new challenge to focus training a bit more. I checked BAA times for 41 year olds and now I have my challenge- qualify for 2010. I ran Philly in 2000 and it was a disaster, so this a shot at redemption.
24 weeks of training starts on Monday 1 December. so this is a week off to get rid of this cold and recharge the body for the marathon training. I’ll be posting about the training in this space in the near future and on a fairly basis. I am looking forward to the training this time around and will not overtrain as I did 2000. I’ll run a half at some point, do my mileage build up in a sensible way and get ready to go 3:20 in the Poconos in May.

11-18
just got back from 53:33 on the trails at Ridley Creek. leaves made decents a little tricky, but all in all, a good run. two red-tailed hawks circling at run’s end, very cool. they are my spiritual connection and were a welcomed sight today.
chilly winter weather a little early this year.
looking forward to continuing good training through the end of the year and getting ready to race again.
after a great XC season for the guys, I feel good about how the plan worked. have to look at next year’s group before the 09 plan develops.
